(WEBINAR) The Challenges & Opportunities of Online Language Teaching: A Community Forum – APRIL 24, 2020

Are you new to online language teaching? Do you have insights and/or concerns to share about online language teaching?

Join us for a virtual community forum, where language instructors can discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the transition to online language teaching for summer term. This session is facilitated by Stefania Burk (Associate Dean, Academic, and Senior Instructor from the Department of Asian Studies) and Jason Myers (Faculty Liaison from the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology), with support from Arts ISIT.

Attendees will participate in breakout group discussions to share ideas about and experiences with online teaching. This forum will address the following topics:

Academic integrity

  • How can we encourage academic integrity in online environments? What challenges do you foresee and what approaches can be used to address this with students?

Synchronous vs. asynchronous teaching

  • What are some strategies for balancing asynchronous and synchronous activities in online courses? What elements of language instruction work best in live sessions? What types of online activities best optimize the possibilities of an online environment and allow for increased student and instructor flexibility?

Collaboration in multi-section courses

  • What opportunities are there for instructors in multi-section courses to share resources and approaches? How can collaboration help to save instructors time and allow more resources for student support?

Online language assessments

  • What are some strategies for effective online assessment in language courses, especially intensive summer courses? What are some challenges you foresee and what other forms of assessment might be possible?

On Friday, April 24th at 11am, join our community forum here:
